A standard water heater burns gas to heat the water inside the tank. The gas control thermostat helps control the temperature of the water. Air is drawn from the bottom and mixes with gas to help heat the water. The main burner ignites and exhaust fumes fuel up the heat. The burner continues to heat water until the desired and set temperature is reached. Every water heater has a valve that controls the heat. It is how the heater is protected. If too much sediment gets build-up, it will act as an insulator. All water heaters need protection against sedimentation and rust. The tank is coated with a thin glass lining. This makes up the tank. On the top of the tank sits the anode rod. There is a lot to know. If you are interested in learning more, keep watching this video for more information.
